Mykhailo Parashchuk’s creative highlights in Bulgaria

Art Gallery “Dimitar Dobrovich”

Sliven, Bulgaria

In September 2024, an exhibition titled “Mykhailo Parashchuk’s Creative Highlights in Bulgaria” was opened.

The author of the project is the Ukrainian Yulia Krasovska, who holds a master’s degree in architecture. Since 2016, she has been a member of the Union of Burgas Artists in Burgas. She has held 9 solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Turkey, the USA, China, and Japan.

The project is dedicated to the famous and established Ukrainian sculptor Mykhailo Parashchuk. He is known to Bulgarian architects as the creator of the best sculptural solutions for the facades of monumental buildings in the capital and countryside. The sculptor arrived in Bulgaria in 1921 and stayed until the end of his life in 1963.

The exhibition showcased 26 sculptures by the master, displayed to the public for the first time, which have been housed in the Art Gallery “Dimitar Dobrovich” in Sliven since 1977. The Rousse Regional Historical Museum presented the stylized stone head of an eagle.

The exhibition included oil paintings depicting iconic buildings in Sofia. The exterior decorations of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the National Theatre “Ivan Vazov”, the Office of the National Assembly, and the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” were created by Mykhailo Parashchuk.

Artist Yulia Krasovska recreated architectural details from the artist’s work on buildings in Burgas, Pernik, Ruse, and Kardzhali in watercolor paintings. Following the creative path of the famous sculptor, Krasovska visited 13 cities in Bulgaria, capturing the most interesting details of his creations in her photos.

Based on archival data and five years of research, the artist reveals the work of Mykhailo Parashchuk both in the capital of Bulgaria and in the countryside. For the first time, viewers learned little-known facts about the life of the notable sculptor who spent his entire creative life in Bulgaria.

The project is implemented by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Bulgaria and the Foundation “Architecture and Art” (Burgas). Partners: Art Gallery “Dimitar Dobrovich” – Sliven, Rousse Regional Historical Museum.
